OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE

WHERE CAN I SERVE?
1 Corinthians 12:4-6 says “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”

One of the most important things we can do is to discover where God is working and use our skills and calling to work along side Him.

BENEVOLENCE MINISTRY

“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him.” (Proverbs 19:17)  Poverty is a complex and multi-faceted condition best resolved through interpersonal relationships. Our desire is to walk alongside of people and offer a “hand up” to fulfill their goals and aspirations. We help our own in times of need as well as the community at large. If you are drawn to people in need, have a compassionate heart, and want to serve in practical ways, we could use you on this team.

BUILDING AND GROUNDS
Whether it’s snow removal in the winter or lawn mowing in the summer, think about that first impression when your work is done!  Broken light bulb — hard to see. Squeaky door — how annoying.  Put your skills to work for the Lord.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES
You can have an eternal impact on children! Available are teaching and assistant positions for Sunday mornings (Nursery–birth through age 3, Little Sprouts–ages 3 through 6, and Infinite Possibilities–ages 6-14) and Monday mornings for the Vermonster Daycare Center outreach.  “Suffer the little children to come unto me, for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

ELDER CARE MINISTRY
Roadside Chapel has a long history of ministering to the elderly in our community. Our meetings are informal and include a time of singing, sharing God’s Word, testimonies, and prayer for felt needs.  There’s a time of sharing “life stories” as an opportunity to honor the Lord with the rich experiences that people have had.
Do you have an extra hour a week?  Reading articles from the daily paper or the Bible would add real value to a person with failing vision.  Befriending someone whose family is far away and have few visitors would cheer up their day. Or perhaps you have a talent you could share–singing, playing an instrument, stand-up comedy.
Having a heart for the elderly could lead you on many an exciting journey.

GRIEFSHARE
Help the broken-hearted put their lives back together as they “walk through the shadow of death”. Once a week for 13-week cycles, those who have lost a loved one (a child, a parent, a sibling, a spouse, a friend) come to share their grief, lean on each other, and learn how life can go on. GriefShare ministry is currently in over 12,000 churches worldwide and we are one of only 3 in the entire state of Vermont. This is a year-round ministry and facilitators and helpers rotate throughout the year so there are always familiar faces to those who attend the sessions. Many participate in two or three 13-week cycles until they have progressed enough to move beyond their grief.  If you’ve experienced grief yourself or have a heart for those who are going through the process, please consider GriefShare.  We have all types of positions open.

MERCY MEAL MINISTRY
There’s nothing like an already-prepared meal during a transitional time like when you’re sick, recovering from surgery, just home from delivering a baby, moving, or dealing with the death of a loved one. We provide meals several ways: freshly cooked meals or those we’ve cooked and stocked in our freezer, ready-made meals purchased from a grocery store, local takeout or restaurant gift cards.  You can help with delivery or even cook a meal if desired.

PILLOWCASE MINISTRY
A hospital experience can be terrifying and traumatic for both a child and their family. While others strive to find a cure, we help with the stress and emotional impact of illness in the here and now. Our whimsical pillowcases give children an emotional boost, while resources and tools help families better understand and cope with the experience.

USHER TEAM
Serving the Lord by serving others: greeting and making guests feel at home, answering questions, passing out bulletins, receiving the tithes and offerings, serving communion once a month, and being watchful for any needs that arise. An usher does this and more.

You are the first faces a newcomer sees and you have the opportunity to make them feel welcomed. Ushers serve for a month every third month. Three are needed each Sunday to assist at the three entrances to the sanctuary.  Substitutes are always welcome and our team consists of both men and women.  Ushering is not just another job, but rather one of the most important and rewarding services in the church. If you have a servant’s heart and a bend toward hospitality, ushering is a great way to serve Christ.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY

Real Life, Real Women
Women are a vital part of our church and we have lots of opportunities for serving here at Roadside Chapel.  Whether it’s the Benevolence Ministry, Mercy Meal Ministry, the Usher Team, Pillowcase Ministry, Elder Care Ministry, Greeting Card Ministry, Missions Committee, Children’s Ministries, or the Women’s Bible Study, you’ll find women hard at work sharing their gifts and callings.

Throughout the year we also participate in fund raising for the following:
1. Walmart Gift Cards for Loveline, supporting missionaries, AG Family Services, and our retired ministers and widows.
2. Coin Fund providing building materials for assisting churches in purchase of land, new buildings, and furnishing other practical needs.
3. Conference Offering for Love Line at our two annual conferences.

Do you have a special calling to help bring us into His presence Sunday morning? We have opportunities for you if you’re a singer or musician as part of our praise and worship each week.

More technically inclined?  We can always use your assistance running the sound and video in each service and recording and uploading the weekly message to our website.
